Chicago
The Museum of Contemporary Art holds one of the largest collections of postwar and contemporary art in the country, in a stark building near the lakefront by Josef Paul Kleihues. Holdings are strong in Surrealism, Minimalism, and work by Chicago artists, including a major group of pieces by Alexander Calder. A grand staircase and sculpture garden look out toward Lake Michigan.
