Fondation Louis Vuitton

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is a private contemporary art foundation created by Bernard Arnault and the LVMH Group, housed in a spectacular building designed by Frank Gehry and inaugurated on 24 October 2014 in the Bois de Boulogne. Gehry conceived the structure as "a magnificent vessel for Paris" — a series of immense glass sails enclosing twelve gallery spaces across several levels, with terraces, a waterfall, and views over the surrounding parkland. Like the Bourse de Commerce, the Fondation has no permanent collection galleries as such; instead, it presents an ambitious rotating programme of temporary exhibitions drawn from its own growing contemporary collection alongside major international loans. Its landmark shows have included the Shchukin Collection (1.2 million visitors), Jean-Michel Basquiat, Monet–Mitchell, Mark Rothko, and Gerhard Richter. The Open Space programme, initiated in 2018, commissions site-specific works from emerging international artists in direct dialogue with Gehry's building.
