The Wien Museum traces the history of Vienna from Roman settlement and medieval city through the imperial capital and the modern metropolis. Reopened in 2023 after a major expansion, it combines models, paintings, and everyday objects, and its permanent collection is free to enter. The building stands on Karlsplatz beside the Baroque Karlskirche.
